JoAnn Carney is an artist who after so many years as an actor, director and successful advertising photographer has spent the last twenty years concentrating on photography to express her feelings and emotions. She has always had a camera nearby and some of the pictures that she made when she was very young remain the catalyst for fond memories. Would those times have been so vivid today without the pictures? Soon she didn’t need to take a picture of friends standing in front of the Eiffel Tower to elicit the feelings that the sights and smells or the anemones that she bought from the street vender outside her hotel in Paris. It was enough to photograph the anemones in the cutoff Evian bottle on the table by the window in her room. Now just the sight or even the thought of anemones brings to mind the excitement of that trip. It is in this way that photography is so important to her.
She has exhibited in Europe and several galleries in the United States. Her advertising work is in the archives of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
For the last 25 years she and her husband have lived part time in New Mexico. But wherever they are, he is always her muse.
