Woodfire ceramics - a way of using only wood to fire or harden clay for serving food.
I have been firing clay objects (porcelain and stoneware) in the communal anagram kilns of Paul Chaleff, Joy Brown, and Jeff Shapiro for about 50 years. The firing with only wood over a period of 7 - 9 days allows the clay to speak, and there Is a stone-like surface to the stoneware when it is woodfired. The result has a look of nature, and food looks great on it, I believe.
I like mixing a few wood fired pieces with glazed pieces on my table. For instance, tomatoes & grilled vegetables look great on woodfire. Beautiful juicy watermelon chunks with feta are stunning on the stoney, natural surfaces of wood fired pieces.
